holiday partyHoliday party pics are posted.
picture that most exemplifies me that night:
happy, curly, dressed up, not sure what i'm drinking
rock star finaleLast week I went to see the finale of Rock Star:INXS. It's kinda crazy being there as they decide who goes home and who wins! I had an amazing time there with the folks I've been working on this project with over the last couple of months - lots of eating, shopping and drinking! (and a lot of really really bad cab drivers, not only in LA but also the shady shady limo driver that picked me, kitty and cathy up)
Check out the pics from the after party. And no, Marty is not licking my eye (though it does look like it), he's just licking my face. (And no, I don't know why he's doing that)
Lots of people have asked me who my favorite rocker was, and I have to say after meeting them, Jessica was by far the coolest, most down to earth rocker of them all. dodgeball and the bullFriday was the msn celebration...work parties can be hit or miss - there have been some that have been super fun, and others that have been SO lame its unbelievable. This one fell on the fun side, even though it was a little too spread out to find people - but lots of activities and lots of food + sunshine usually equals success.
Space craft (our lovely dodgeball team) played the washington generals. Now, I didn't expect to last long in the game since I'm still ankle-gimpy and the no-pivot-and-turn rule is still in effect. However, I found myself in the first match all alone, the rest of my team eliminated, and me facing something like 8 opponents on my own! Andrea told me later the crowd got quite the kick out of that. Anyway, the only thing going through my head at that point was hoping that i didn't get beaned in the head (aka, please don't break my sunglasses, I wore my nice ones today). I really should have worn something that blended in better with my surroundings, maybe I would have lasted a bit longer? (dodgeball pics) A bunch of us also rode the bull - geez that takes a lot of energy! (bull riding pics). Between that and wine drinking (and ghetto towel taking) I was pretty beat.
phew! another hard week at work. if only they paid me to do this all the time.
in shanghaiRyan (co-worker) and I are currently in Shanghai - pretty badass eh? Anyway, I've been slowly recovering from a bad case of jet lag. Every evening I want to go to sleep at just after dinner time, but then I wake up at 2am and then can't sleep. (Which I'm sure Ryan finds to be impossible since I proved on the flight over that I can sleep through an entire plane ride). It does making working back with folks in seattle a little easier, though ruins me for the later afternoons here.
It's been really hot here - just like hong kong or tokyo in the summer - and super gross humid. Apparently there is supposed to be a Typhoon this weekend. We haven't had too much of a chance so far to see much of the city since we're either in work or wanting to fall asleep shortly after eating dinner.
Peter and Lois were kind enough to take us out for some great food on Tuesday evening when we arrived in Shanghai at Whampoa Club at 3 on the bund. Asian fusion shanghainese food? Tasty! And then for a quick look at the Shanghai skyline and TV tower (the picture of shanghai you see on every postcard). Very cool
cheesecake!yesterday mike suprised me with cheesecake in the cafeteria with the whole team to wish me happy birthday!
It's funny, because I nearly missed my own birthday party because I tried to leave early and reschedule the meeting I had with mike. Literally I was walking through the hallways looking for someone who had sticky-notes so that I could leave a note on his monitor. Jay's? nope. mc? nope. maya? score! As I was writing the note, I saw Mike coming down the hall. I tried to tell him I wanted to resched so I could take off, but he cut me off saying that he had a very important question he needed to ask me, and that I should just go with him to the cafe to get a coffee. He seemed pretty insistent in his tone and it was odd that he didn't want to follow up on email or something. That's when I sensed something was up...Anyway, thanks to everyone who came by for some cake! and yay to mike for bringing the cake! best work related trip everin the haze of travelling across the continent i've been doing lately, i forgot to mention the badass work related trip i went on last week! more details later, but joe's got the pics on his space.
sure beats the first work trip i ever went on when i worked on messenger. there is nothing like spending 6 hours in the emergency room.
come to think of it, i sure have a lot of bad experiences documented. Like the time the fat man rolled onto my car, funerals, that other time i got food poisoning, the time i locked myself out of my car twice in one day and THE WORST HAIR DAY EVER.
well, at least i can laugh at myself.
i'm feeling sorta coughy and sneezy so I'm heading home to work so I don't contaminate the office. lydia's lunchThe bunch of us went out for Lydia's farewell lunch at Typhoon. One minute we were talking about Closer and Million Dollar Baby, and the next thing you know we're talking about how Hilary Swank was on 90210...and from there it was bev hills lunchtime quiz.
ps. lydia we'll miss you! how true, how true :)Through word of mouth on some of my co-worker's spaces, I've discovered Abbie's Space - a user and fan of spaces and messenger with a pretty good perspective on user issues. Anyway, I thought it was pretty amusing that she has a list of people that work for spaces, and I'm listed on that list....and everyone on that list is a 'god' or 'goddess' and I'm listed as..."slave"....hahaha, it's like she knows me or something! |
