OMG BARBAPAPAawww, total blast from the past....
I just read a blog entry about the Barbapapas - a cartoon family of shapeshifters. I used to love them and watch their cartoons all the time. I even had Barbapapa story books, though I'm sure my mom sold them years ago at one of her garage sales ... I've mentioned them before to people here in the States and it seems that no one ever heard of them, looks like it was just in europe and canada ... Anyway, looks like you can find most of the old episodes on youtube. I'm totally going to re-watch them all! etchLast night I was out with Walter and Adam for dinner and somehow I told them about my university roomate Eric (aka etch) who used to fall asleep mid-sentence while telling stories ("oh man, I love that part in the movie when ....zzzzzzzzzzz") and was our resident funny man. Anyway, I saw his gleam on messenger today and so I clicked through to read his blog entry - warning: it's a bit cheese but cracked me up b/c its so eric. Quote what extension are you? who do you look like?according to myheritage.com, I'm a 70% match for shannen doherty. I dont know how to take that since she has lopsided eyes and has had plastic surgery.

I love it! I'm so glad hockey is back!
Lu's visit and Anthony & Nicolette's weddingOk, so this is a little late, considering that Lu left last Saturday morning! Anyway, we had a great week hanging out and being mature adults this time around. We got lots of shoes (including Lu's shearling boots which took her a week of pining and daydreaming about before she caved and got them), ate lots of food, went out on the boat, watched some football (sort of), went to find Lu's 'missing' car, and went out on the town. Plus for an extra bonus, Sterls made a last minute trip down to Seattle!!! :)
No kissing pigs this time..
Anyway, after partying pretty hard on Friday night, we were in no shape to catch the early ferry to Orcas Island, so we ended up carpooling with Lloyd and Kelsey up to the wedding. The wedding was really beautiful, and thankfully I was prepared with my winter overcoat since the wedding was outside. Yes, OUTSIDE. Afterwards, a bunch of us tried to get some cards but all we could scrape together was a dice with two 2's on it, a magnifying glass (or a microsope or microphone depending on if you ask clay or kurt) and a star. It's amazing how much fun you can have making the most assinine drinking games or how into quarters one can get (Lloyd broke his chair). Anyway, the next day wasn't so fun - we couldn't get on the ferry (it was full) and ended up waiting an extra 3 hours (in the cold) to get home. boooo. nonetheless, i had an awesome weekend. Apparently I didn't take any pictures OF the wedding, but I did get lots of drinking game shots. people 7 & jamesLast night after falling asleep numerous times, I managed to drag my sleepy butt out to People 7 - the most confusing restaurant/lounge ever - as in, everything there is about making you look closely and think twice - had I not been so tired I would have thought it was cool. Well, I was half asleep so I wasn't all very amused when I got to the door (which wasn't easy to find) and couldn't actually figure out initially how to OPEN the door (there's a code and a puzzle to get the door to open), and even going to the bathroom was quite the challenge (there's a secret on how to open the door to get into a bathroom). Ridiculous. None the less, it was fun to see James and meet his friend Derek. Pretty cool spot actually, very chill.
James has been a great host so far in showing us the city...he also picked us up from work the day before and took us out to shanghai uncle (or was it uncle shanghai?) for dinner...and showed us a good place to get cheap brekkie. I cannot believe how cheap food is here! Too bad my chinese skills are lacking and I have to resort to the charades (point point, two, smile, nod) to get food...
my vote for rock star:inxs - jordisjordis rules (even though she's not canadian). the end.
rallyingi've had a fun weekend, but it's definiely been about rallying...my allergies have been ruining me!
Friday at work was insane...lots of meetings and lots of sneezing (and for those who know me, that usual results in a fit of laughter from those around me. ahem, torres!)! The work day ended well though with marguerita's and brie to make the task of updating spaces more interesting. I love the folks over on the entertainment side - its really fun to work with different people.
The evening ended up being a lot of bar hopping - after a short cat nap, Walter and I did a drive by at Marco's supperclub for a drink (I'm good on my word) before heading out to Rendezvous to check out moc moc where I got roped into sitting at the merch table and walter taking pics. Next we went over to Viceroy where we met up with some of walter's friends and mark, and then off to Del Ray. We finished off the night by eating mass amounts of burgers at minnie's. Ahhh there's nothing like eating greasy food at 2am!
Saturday morning I woke up early and spent the morning reading - I'm about 1/3 of the way through 'the unbearable lightness of being' and went over to torrerro's for lunch with kurt. By this time, i was feeling pretty damn crappy - really sneezy, really tired...so i went home and took a nap...for like 5 hours! I woke up just in time to meet up with Erik who i haven't seen in for like ever. Matt and Walter dropped by before we went our seperate ways - Matt and Thomas to Baltic and the rest of us to Mars Bar - my favoritest place to see my favoritest band Moc Moc play. Alls I got to say is, watch out for the next 'real world' type drama on pbs. two and a half asians? how can you go wrong?
ps. come on walter, shot of ketel? as if you could take me down! bunnies!long weekend of g'sG #1 - Garage band - Ok, it was really a basement at some house party, and we were only there for a bit due to claustrophobia and drinking too much beer before hand at nickerson on friday night. G #2 - Games - Met up on Saturday afternoon with my favorite scrabble opponent...oh and mr. chair...at victrola to play some scrabble. J is usually really good, and so am I, but we lost big time to mr. chair! Who knew he could even spell?
Saturday evening after eating lots of yummy food at Annee and Jordan's, we played a couple rounds of spy vs. killer until all of our faces were cramping from all that winking before moving on to some texas hold 'em. I lost, but with a $5 buy in per game you really can't feel too bad about it. Sunday evening after the dismal pistons game, we played more poker - this time I came in 3rd (got my $5 back), lost (lost my $5), won $35 at the 1-3-5 game (aka the yelling game), and then another $30 playing another round of hold 'em. WOOT! G #3 - Golf - Ok, more like driving range, but its really all the same to me. I made contact with the ball (good) but it was constantly veering right (bad). I suppose I'll have to take more golf lessons to figure out what's wrong with my swing. G #4 - Gelato - There's nothing worse than working on a long weekend. My only consolation was it was crappy weather out, and in the brief sunny period, I treated mr. chair to some gelato with my poker winnings. all in all a fun weekend...i can't complain! What to do when on a BAD dateI can't say that I've been on that many disastrous dates (since I'm anti-date to begin with) but what a handy little service! I wonder if AT&T/Cingular offers a similar service - The Rescue Call? (Thanks Sol)
my fake boyfriendhahaha, i found this pic on a promoter's website...its from Saturday night at Toi. It's me and Matt, though I don't really remember taking this picture.
craigslist makes me giggleCraigslist has the funniest mix of useful things and funny random things. I happened to notice that Amy got rid of some goods on craigslist...which prompted me to go check out apartment listing (since i just never know what i'm going to do about my living situation) and i found this: Free housing for female. Hahah, funny stuff. I got this one from Fil - http://seattle.craigslist.org/about/best/chi/54508796.html. Hot damn. If only I could knit like that, he could be mine. disco!he's so smooth, I wish i could move like him...his partner however, looks like a pecking chicken.... Newstoday jumpsuit educationSometimes people are shocked by my knowledge in music and culture from the years before I was born - I attribute this entirely to my parents (mostly my dad) who was really into music and was always playing a mixture of oldies with whatever was hot at the time (solid gold!). Then there are the things I SHOULD know about, but don't know about - and once again I attribute this to my parents. Even though I was born in Toronto, and as north americanized as my brother and I are, there are definitely things that my parents omitted from the north american lifestyle to inject traditional chinese beliefs and customs. For example, my mother didn't believe in nutella, or mac & cheese (thankfully, because it looks disgusting), or that friday night was a great time to go to chinese language class. Another thing I don't seem to remember is jumpsuits.
I received my first introduction to jumpsuits last night at a Jumpsuit party - can I just say that there is nothing more unflattering than a jumpsuit? It makes everyone look disproportional - long torso, short legs - basically a big tube. Mr. Chair made quite an entrance with his one-of-a-kind jumpsuit. You either loved it, or had to shield your eyes. We found a brown velour jumpsuit for myself that made me look like I was wearing a bear-suit, minus the bear ears. The only plus to my outfit was that for once, it actually matched my shoes. Which isn't really saying a lot since I'm never going to wear that thing again. Anyway, lets just hope the jumpsuit doesn't make a return - it's definitely one trend I won't be following. weekend recapit was a pretty low key weekend - I knew on Friday that I was coming down with something. I think the temperature and lifestyle changes since coming back from Peru are to blame. Anyway, I hadn't done ANY christmas shopping so after work I motored downtown to get some stuff done. I was SO tired that I wasn't particularly productive (what?! Karen NOT productive at shopping? Crazy eh?) and I nearly fell asleep at dinner at Palamino with Walter and Kurt. I had a funny/awkward moment walking down the street to Palamino but i'll have to go into that at a later date. It was one of those moments that was half oh-shit and half oh-well. Saturday was SUPPOSED to be more shopping, but I was starting to feel even shittier, so I didn't end up doing a whole lot of anything. Mr. Chair and I tried to watch Mystic River, but I think I fell asleep after half an hour of the movie. Too bad, I heard it was good. I guess I'll try again when I'm not sick. Sunday evening I went to my old GM's place for his xmas party. A bunch of us ended up playing poker - I'm actually not that bad of a poker player considering I've only played a couple times (less than five, and only once where money was involved at Nikki's). I attribute my excellent skills to watching two seasons of celebrity poker. haha :) In the end the Kikki consortium (k + nikki) ended up coming in second place. Not bad, considering we were getting restless sitting at the table for so long. All in all, a very fun night.
